BRKC 2012 Rules (subject to change)
BRKC Rules Version 2.6 (13/4/12)

The BRKC ultimately runs to the individual rules system of each track visited and any race result
disputes or queries should be directed towards the circuit staff or race director.

ENTRIES:

1a
Competitors must endeavour to enter each race they intend to take part in as soon as possible.
However, if there are spaces available, entry will sometimes be allowed up until the day of the event.
Competitors must book in early however, to avoid disappointment.

1b
Championship/Club entry fee is £20 per competitor. This allows you to score points towards the
championships (Overall and Heavyweight) and also makes you eligible for the free entry into the 2012
Kart World Championship should you win overall. This championship entry fee is NON REFUNDABLE.

1c
In order to compete in a round of the BRKC you must enter the championship by paying the entrance
fee. This is a one off fee for the entire championship. However, race entry fees for each round must be
paid for directly to the circuit in question. If a driver enters the BRKC after four rounds have been
completed, they will only be required to pay £5 entry fee - but will not be eligible for any championship
prizes at the end of the season.

To clarify, any driver wishing to be eligible for any Championship prize (not including individual race
trophies) must take part in at
least three BRKC rounds.

Details of how to pay can be found at www.brkc.net, along with circuit phone numbers.

**POINTS SCORING SYSTEM** - This is the same as the KWC system.

Points Scoring: To minimize the burden of possible bad luck on kart selection, positions
19 through to 30 will score the same number of points (10 pts.). Position 30 and onwards
score zero points.

1) 30         11) 18                21) 10
2) 28         12) 17                22) 10
3) 26         13) 16                23) 10
4) 25         14) 15                24) 10
5) 24         15) 14                25) 10
6) 23         16) 13                26) 10
7) 22         17) 12                27) 10
8) 21         18) 11                28) 10
9) 20         19) 10                29) 10
10)19         20) 10                30) 10

Unlike the KWC points system, no points will be available for fastest lap and/or pole position. This is to
alleviate any doubt about results after the races have been completed.

2a
Each competitor will be allowed to drop his/her worst score at the end of the championship. It is the
best 5 out of 6 rounds that will score points.
In the event of a competitor completing fewer than 6 rounds, the non-scoring round will be dropped.
All drivers
including celebrities will score points.

Remember that any driver competing in fewer than three BRKC rounds will be effectively removed from
the final Championship points table.

2b
If you are disqualified from the points scoring final at a round of the BRKC you will score zero points,
regardless of which final (A, B, C etc.) you were in. For example, if you are disqualified from the A -
Final and there are 10 competitors, you will not get the points for 10th place. You will NOT be allowed
to drop that score from your championship standings at the end of the season. The dropped score will
remain your worst (non disqualification) result.

2c
Organisers may not compete in regular BRKC races - except for 'one off' or special non-championship
events.

WEIGHT:

3a
  • There will be a separate championship for the 'Overall' and 'Heavyweight' drivers. Drivers will be
weighed when signing in at EVERY round of the championship. When being weighed, drivers must
be wearing full race kit, including helmets and any extra equipment (e.g. neck braces etc.)
All drivers must weigh at least 70kg including racing equipment. It is permitted to use lead seats
or ankle / wrist weights or other weights which are securely fastened to the driver in order to
achieve the minimum weight.

*** IMPORTANT ***: Lead seats must be presented in a professional state. They will ideally be
upholstered or the back will be covered with fabric of some kind in order to protect the permanent
rental kart seats from damage or scratching. The seat should fit snugly into the rental kart seat and
must not easily come loose in the event of an accident.

Any weight worn on the drivers themselves must be UNDER the race overalls in order to prevent
them coming loose at any point on track. They must be securely attached to the driver and pass
inspection by the race officials.

As always, the decision of the circuit's race director will be final. If you have any questions about
what is appropriate to use as weight, please email team@brkc.net.

3b
  • Weighing will take place on the BRKC's official scales, to ensure consistency at each round.
Remember - drivers will be weighed AFTER the race to avoid any driver racing under weight. It is
the post-race weight that matters. You may weigh yourself at any time during the race meeting
    for your personal reference.

3c
  • Drivers who weigh 90kg and above will compete in the Heavyweight class.
  • Drivers who weigh below 90kg will compete in only the Overall class.
  • All drivers including Heavyweight, will compete in the Overall class.

3d
  • If a driver is below the Heavyweight class or Overall class threshold, they will be given the option
to add weight to themselves in the form of extra clothing etc. in order to become eligible for
the Heavyweight class. This can ONLY be done before the racing has started.

3e
  • The top three drivers finishing in each BRKC race will be weighed. Drivers may not leave the
pitlane or have any contact with any team members etc. until they have been weighed. It is
drivers' weight AFTER the race that will deem them eligible for the Heavyweight or Overall class.
It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that he is over the 70kg or 90kg weight limit after the
race. Remember - you can lose a great deal of weight through sweat etc. during a race.
Weighing after the race is to ensure that nobody gains an unfair advantage by removing weight
from their person after initial weighing but before the race.
3f
  • If a driver is found to be underweight for their class (wearing the full racing kit that they took
part in the session in) during the weigh in after any competitive BRKC session, they will be be
classed as a DNF for that session. This includes all qualifying and race sessions but excludes
practice sessions. Drivers may practice at any weight that they want.
3g
  • Points scored in Heavyweight and Overall classes are separate and cannot be transferred
    between classes.

We understand that weight limit rules can be confusing, so if you have any queries at all, please email
the BRKC at
team@brkc.net.

Points will be scored towards both the Overall championship plus the individual Heavyweight
championship.
For instance: if a driver in the heavyweight class finishes his final 12th overall but 1st out of the
heavyweight drivers, he will receive 17 points for the Overall Championship but the full 30 points
towards the Heavyweight Championship.

AWARDS:

4a
Circuits will provide trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class at each event.
At the end of the championship (at Round 6) after the final results have been tallied and worked out,
there will be larger trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Overall, plus trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in
Heavyweight class.

The Overall Champion will also have a photograph with the giant 'cheque' (for '£Free Entry to the 2012
KWC).

4b
BRKC Organisers may no longer enter BRKC Rounds which count towards the championship. (See Rule
2c)

4c
It should be noted that the free entry into the KWC 2012 or Sport Kart Grand Nationals does not
include travel, accommodation, practice or any other extras. It is the entry fee alone, which covers all
racing (other than the Nations' cup) at the KWC. If you have already paid for yourself to enter the KWC
and you win the BRKC, then we will reimburse your KWC entry fee as your prize. If you are not entered
into the KWC, then there is NO CASH ALTERNATIVE to the KWC entry prize. If you are unable to travel
to the KWC (taking place from the 24th until the 29th of July 2011) then the prize will be offered to the
next highest finishing driver as a swap for their prize.

PENALTIES / INFRINGEMENTS / DISQUALIFICATIONS:

5a
All penalties applied during racing will be at the sole discretion of the circuit operator. Different
circuits will  operate different rules systems, and therefore be more strict / lenient with regards to
penalties applied. Competitors will be informed of these during the drivers' briefing at each event.*
BRKC takes no responsibility for penalties handed out by circuit operators and as always - the stewards'
decisions are final.
The BRKC results will be based upon the final results handed to us by the circuit operator.

(
2b)
If you are disqualified from the points scoring final at a round of the BRKC you will score zero points,
regardless of which final (A, B, C etc.) you were in. For example, if you are disqualified from the A -
Final and there are 10 competitors, you will not get the points for 10th place. You will NOT be allowed
to drop that score from your championship standings at the end of the season. The dropped score will
remain your worst (non disqualification) result.

5b
*By signing up for the 2012 BRKC, competitors agree that they are familiar with at least basic flag and
safety rules and agree to abide by each circuit's individual regulations.

5c
Although the BRKC generally uses the rules systems set out by each individual track, there is one
exception. Under no circumstances may a driver be 'given back' a lap. Some circuits have been known
to reinstate drivers to their original position following a mechanical failure. This is NOT permitted at a
BRKC round - even if the circuit's final results printout contains a 'gifted' lap. Mechanical failures are
rare, but simply an unfortunate but accepted consequence of motorsport. Should this happen, and
race results are handed to the BRKC organisers with a 'gifted lap' included, then the BRKC will place
the driver in question back into the position that they actually achieved on track, accepting that
mechanical failure / other drivers causing an accident is just part of motorsport.

EQUIPMENT:

6a
Competitors are permitted - and encouraged - to provide their own race equipment. This includes
mandatory helmet, gloves, race suit and racing boots - although these items will be provided by each
circuit free of charge if necessary.
Competitors are encouraged to use their own equipment due to the sometimes poorer quality of free
rental equipment, and also to promote a professional image for the BRKC in any photographic media.
However, if you do not have your own equipment, by all means utilise the items provided by the
circuits.

Also optional and recommended are: neck braces, rib protectors and wet weather oversuits.

6b
Upon signing in for their first of BRKC round of the year, drivers will be provided with a BRKC 2012
square helmet sticker to be applied to the side of the helmet and a BRKC branded visor strip to be
applied to the visor.
These must both be applied to the helmet to show that entry has been paid for the championship.
Drivers are expected to keep these branded stickers applied during the BRKC race meetings.

CONDUCT

7a
The BRKC is an unbiased, competitive and friendly series. BRKC drivers are professionals and should act
accordingly on and off of the track. Any driver whose conduct could bring the BRKC into disrepute
(including through the use of digital media and the internet) will be removed from the series and / or
have any penalties applied that the organisers see fit.

7b
On track incidents / disagreements will happen periodically as is inevitable with close competition.
However, any grievences that a driver / supporter / family member may have with another competitor
or their driving, should be discussed calmly with the race director.

7c
Any driver deemed to have acted in an agressive or threatening way towards any other competitor,
spectator or official will be banned from the British Rental Kart Championship without opportunity
for a refund of either race or championship entry fees. This rule will be applied at the discretion of
the BRKC organisers and is not negotiable.

8a
The rules detailed on this page are subject to change at the discretion of BRKC.

8.b
By participating in a BRKC event, you are agreeing to the above set of regulations. This is
regardless of whether you have filled in an entry form. Please read all rules and
regulations carefully before competing in a BRKC race event.
Be sure to read the rules thoroughly!
